- China Mobile recently confirmed that it has initiated the second-round tender for 100,000 TD-SCDMA terminal products, including mobile phones and data cards, Sohu News reported. According to the same report, China Mobile claimed that a qualified bidder should have TD-SCDMA network access license issued by China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry). It is projected that approximately 20 to 30 mobile phone makers will participate in the bidding process, Xinhua News reported. For the second-round tender, China Mobile also demanded that all TD-SCDMA data cards should also support the 3.5G technology known as HDSPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access).

- According to Nikkei Electronics Asia, NXP Semiconductors and T3G Technology recently announced that they have commercialized the next-generation 3G mobile phone system solution, codenamed T3G7208, in China. The advanced solution - a comprehensive solution for multi-mode mobile phones running on TD-SCDMA/EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) systems - has been adopted for Samsung's SGH-L288 mobile phone, which features videoconferencing, a downlink speed of 384kbps and uplink speed of 128kbps, and a built-in 2MP camera. A batch of Samsung's T3G9208-powered SGH-L288 phones has been handed over to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, according to the same report.
